All, all alike endear’d, grown, ungrown, young or old,
Strong, ample, fair, enduring, capable, rich,
Perennial with the Earth, with Freedom, Law and Love,
A grand, sane, towering, seated Mother,
Chair’d in the adamant of Time. -Walt Whitman’s “America”
There are many things that define America, the most resounding, in my opinion, being our nation’s very people. We are a country of varied ideologies, religions, creeds, races, and spiritualisms, and yet we are all bound together under the same shared expressions of our American citizenship… an indelible mark on our individual characters, a unifier in times of splintering. To see this sentiment manifested, well, thats a reminder we all need sometimes. Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to have just that. Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and followers, we were able to take a truck load of supplies up to Hurricane decimated areas of New York and do our part to relieve a small fraction of the destruction that now mares many areas of the East Coast. Equal parts surreal and inspiring, what we saw was a powerful reiteration of the resiliency of the American people, and their, our, ability to band together without hesitation to help, comfort, and protect… And, we want to encourage you to experience this for yourself. There are many ways you can help and no deed is too small. We will continue to collect donations at the shop (through Thursday) that will be taken directly to displaced families. Anything from water, toiletries, food and clothing, to cleaning supplies, baby supplies, duck tap, and trash bags are appreciated. You can also donate directly to the American Red Cross at http://www.redcross.org. For more information on how to get involved, check out http://www.ready.gov. Thank you again to all of the amazing friends, customers, and small business’ who have already donated. You’re generosity was greatly appreciated by everyone we encountered.
